Michelham Priory is hosting an evening with Consonus Baroque entitled Putting on the Fritz. A magical evening at the Court of Frederick the Great, Frederick (Fritz to his friends), was a gentle child, profoundly musical and interested in philosophy and culture. He was cruelly brutalised by his sadistic father, but when Fritz became the Emperor of Prussia, he established one of the most vibrant and star studded musical courts in Europe. Famed for his daily evening concerts, Fritz was an excellent flautist and took an active part in playing, and sometimes composing the music to be played. With some of the greatest musicians and composers of the time at his disposal, he left a rich and varied repertoire for us to choose from. Allow yourself to be transported as an imagined evening at his court is recreated, with each piece written by members of, or visitors to, his esteemed court. Be entertained and moved by the music of CPE and JS Bach, Quantz and amongst others, Fritz himself. An evening of musical delights with some fascinating stories along the way the event is located in wonderful and atmospheric surroundings. Doors open at 6.30pm with a selection of wine, beer and soft drinks on offer. The performance starts at 7.30pm. Finishing at approximately 9.30pm. Tickets for age 14+ are £18 per person in advance from www.sussexpast.coe.uk or £20 on the door.
