We hold 3 identical services (each lasting about 55 minutes) on Christmas Eve at 3pm, 4.30pm or 6pm, so choose a t6ime that suits you best.

At Hailsham Parish Church we love Christmas. The decorations, the Christmas tree, the food, the presents…but most of all the opportunity to celebrate the birth of Jesus, God’s special promised King, his amazing gift to the World. As Christmas approaches and the excitement builds, we can sometimes, in the midst of our preparations, forget why and what we are celebrating. On Christmas Eve, as shops begin to close, preparations nearly done and families gather, we offer an opportunity for all ages to come together and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, with a Christingle Service!
What happens at a Christingle Service? We will sing some carols, usually watch a short video of the Christmas story, listen to a bible reading and a short talk. Pre-made Christingles are given out and then lit, followed by us singing together ‘Away in a Manger’.
What is a Christingle? It is an orange, decorated with sweets, a red ribbon and candle. Each part of it, reminds us of one part of Christmas. The orange is the World. The sweets are all the good things that God has given us. The ribbon is the same colour as blood to show that Jesus died instead of us. The candle, when lit, reminds us that Jesus is the light of the World. He brings light into the World. He shows us how we should live.
