What does it take to become an astronaut? We will investigate with some exciting activities to discover the challenges faced when reaching space.
This is a fabulous, fun workshop aimed at encouraging anyone who is curious about space, the Universe and astronauts.
Join us to investigate the ‘little to giant’ steps taken to becoming an astronaut and working on the International Space Station. We will be doing experiments exploring the senses and discussing the effects of microgravity in space. You will learn the importance of team work and how to control robot arms. We will also be thinking about what is in our Universe.
We will share ideas how science has helped people launch into space and what this has achieved.

SPECIAL OFFER
This workshop is intended for children only and we encourage adults to leave their children with us unless they have additional needs and require extra help and support. All our staff and volunteers are checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and our adult to child ratio ensures sufficient support throughout the workshop. If your child/children do need support throughout the workshop please do not book yourself on as a learner because this takes away a child’s place, please contact The Centre and we will make a note that you will be staying. We can only offer a free meal to the children.
Special offer admission to The Observatory Science Centre for parents/guardians and siblings of children attending the workshop:
For adults (and other children in the same group to a reasonable limit) who wish to stay in The Centre while their child/children are participating in the workshop: we are are offering a special discounted admission of just £7 per person.
There is no provision to book for the special offer discounted rate online and this will need to be purchased on the day at reception.
There is no need to come through reception if you are just dropping off or picking up your child/children. Please come to the white gates outside the Science Station which is located in the basement of Dome F: white Gates at the far right hand-side of the Car Park as you face the Centre. HOWEVER, if you are taking advantage of the special discounted rate for admission you will need to come to reception and pay the relevant admissions.
Please allow time to register and complete a Code of Conduct form (see below).
CODE OF CONDUCT
We do expect good behaviour on all of our workshops. This will not only enhance your child’s enjoyment, it will ensure that the workshop is not disrupted and all the other children will be able to enjoy the experience too. With this in mind we ask you to fill in a code of conduct when you register your child/children for the workshop. Code of Conduct forms will be available in the workshop venue when you arrive.
