The Bluebell Trail and Farm Walk at Bates Green Farm, Tye Hill Road, Arlington, Nr Polegate, East Sussex BN26 6SH enters its 50th year on 11 April until 10 May daily between 10am and 5pm. There is free car parking including designated parking for disabled. Dogs on leads welcomed. You can walk through the bluebells and white wood anemones in a 24 acre ancient oak wood. This walk is gravelled for wheelchairs and mobility scooters with seating every 150 yards. There are six other walks over farmland. You can see cows being milked, there is a petting animals area, mobility scooters are available free of charge and there is a wheelchair accessible toilet. Refreshments are provided by the duty charity. There are picnic tables in a sheltered corner of the car park field. Visit the second hand book room managed by Action Medical Research, open every day. The Plant stall is managed by Arlington Church which is also open every day. Hailsham Old Pavilion Society (HOPS) stall and ice cream is also open daily. There is a photographic competition to win prizes, children’s quiz sheets available for answers found on boards around the walks. In addition there is the Memorial Glade situated in the quiet area of Beatons Wood, to sit and remember those who are no longer here. Sussex trug maker Charlie Groves demonstrates his skills most weekend. There is a wild bird webcam so that you can view the garden birds feeding via a large screen in the Bluebell Barn. Finally, between 1972 and 2022 has raised £890,000 between 80 local charities. Inflation raises this figure to over £1.5m. “Exact timing of the appearance of bluebells and wood anemones is decided by nature, not us.” Every Friday and Tuesday there will be an update on the website www.bluebellwalk.co.uk.
