Children and their families may produce art linked to the wood. In Victorian times Laughton Greenwood used to be a famous wood for the vibrant species of butterflies who lived here. It was one of the few sites in the UK where the Lewes Wave survived https://www.ukmoths.org.uk/species/scopula-immorata/
In recent times with climate change and agricultural pesticides the Wave is believed to be extinct in the UK. However there are still a few rare specimens of the Pearl Bordered Fritillary https://www.sussex-butterflies.org.uk/species/pearl-bordered-fritillary.php
The children will create art that celebrates these beautiful species and highlights the need to preserve them.
